Katyayani Bt Bio Larvicide is a powder bio-insecticide containing Bacillus thuringiensis. It controls a wide range of insect larval pests through ingestion, disrupting the larvae's gut, causing them to stop feeding and eventually die.

Mode of Action:

1. Spore Ingestion: Insect larvae ingest Bt spores present on plant material.
2. Spore Activation: The alkaline environment in the insect's gut dissolves the spores, releasing protein crystals.
3. Protoxin Activation: Gut enzymes convert these crystals into active Bt toxins (Cry toxins).
4. Binding: Toxins bind to specific receptors on midgut epithelial cells.
5. Pore Formation: Toxins form pores in the cell membrane.
6. Cell Lysis: Pore formation disrupts midgut cells, causing them to burst.
7. Death: The damaged gut leads to starvation and death of the larvae.

Application and Dosage:

• Spraying: Apply 1-2 kg per acre.

Precautions:

• Apply 2-3 days before chemical pesticides for optimal effectiveness on young larvae.
• Best applied in the evening when temperatures are above 18°C; effectiveness increases above 30°C.
• Reapply every 10-15 days for ongoing control.
